2012-2013 Catalog
Want to build a young child’s mind? Consider the field of Early Childhood Education.
The Early Childhood Education Program at Arapahoe Community College is designed to prepare professionals to work with young children, birth through age 8, in a variety of settings. The Early Childhood Teacher Certificates – Level 1 and Level 2, and the Early Childhood Director certificate are designed to meet the educational requirements established by the Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Child Care. Students who wish to work in licensed early childhood care and education programs may complete the certificate sequence of courses for Early Childhood Teacher levels and move forward to earn an Associate of Arts degree. In order to work in a licensed child care facility, the Colorado Department of Human Services does require experience working with young children in licensed early childhood programs in addition to the required coursework.
The Early Childhood Education program works closely with Colorado four year institutions of higher education and has articulation agreements for early childhood education teacher preparation. As the requirements in this field are changing, please refer to the Early Childhood Education page at www.arapahoe.edu for updated information.
All Early Childhood and general education coursework must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.
