ARA 111—Arabic Language I – 5 credits
- No prerequisite: This is a beginner course
- Textbook: Ahlan – Wa Salan, by Sahlad, Yale University Press, with audio CDs (copies of CDs to be purchased from ACC media department)
- Student Competencies: Upon completion of this course, the student at the novice level should be able to:
- Reproduce comprehensibly the pronunciation and intonation of Arabic
- Understand basic oral statements, instructions and questions
- Apply accurately vocabulary and learned phrases in simple oral expressions
- Demonstrate knowledge of vocabulary and grammar in basic conversations
- Employ correct spelling, vocabulary and grammar in writing simple sentences
- Read and comprehend basic information
- Identify geographical locations where Arabic language is spoken
- Demonstrate an awareness of appropriate cultural behaviors in everyday situation
