CHI 112 - Chinese Language II – 5 credits
- Prerequisite: Chinese I – CHI 111 or instructor permission.
- Required Materials: Integrated Chinese Level 1, Part 1 – Simplified characters Textbook, Workbook/ Lab manual and Audio CDs.
- Course Objectives: The objectives of this course are:
- To provide the student with the opportunity to acquire additional basic knowledge of Chinese grammar, vocabulary and syntax.
- To provide the student with continued practice in basic aural, oral, reading and writing skills.
- To provide the student with continued practice in translations (English/Chinese – Chinese/English).
- To provide the student with continued opportunity to learn about the culture of China and its relationships to the world.
- Students Competencies: The student at novice-high level should be able to:
- Demonstrate improved pronunciation and intonation of Chinese.
- Comprehend and respond to oral directions and questions.
- Verbalize simple personal ideas using correct pronunciation and grammar.
- Comprehend simple, brief, written selections including articles and literary excerpts.
- Write simple, guided compositions, based on everyday situations, using correct grammar.
- Demonstrate an awareness of appropriate cultural behaviors in everyday situations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of some contributions of the Chinese culture to the culture of the United States.
