FRE 101

FRE 101 – Conversational French I – 3 credits

  • No prerequisite: This is a beginner class.
  • Required materials: French In Action, the Capretz Method, 2nd ed., Yale University Press. Textbook & Workbook (part 1) and audio CDs. (Copies of the CDs can be purchased from the Media Center). The first 9 chapters of the textbook and workbook will be covered in this course.
  • Student Competencies: Upon completion of this course, students at the novice level should be able to:
  1. Comprehensibly reproduce the pronunciation and intonation of the language.
  2. Understand basic oral statements, instructions, and questions.
  3. Accurately apply vocabulary and learned phrases in simple oral expressions.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of vocabulary and grammar in elementary interchanges.
  5. Employ comprehensible grammar in writing simple statements.
  6. Read and comprehend basic information
  7. Demonstrate an awareness of appropriate cultural behaviors in everyday situations.
