LAT 111 - Latin Language I – 5 credits
- Prerequisite: None
- Required Materials: Oxford Latin Course (2nd edition) – Part 1.
- Course Objectives: to give students the opportunity to acquire the basics of Latin grammar, develop a repertoire of essential Latin vocabulary, develop an understanding of the contribution of Latin to the English language and understanding of Latin history and its contribution to western culture and civilization.
- Student Competencies: Upon completion of this course, the student l should be able to:
- Comprehensibly reproduce the pronunciation of classical or ecclesiastical Latin
- Understand and respond to simple Latin directions and questions.
- Demonstrate understanding of basic Latin vocabulary.
- Demonstrate the ability to write simple Latin sentences using correct and idiomatic syntax.
- Develop and appreciation for the myriad ways that Latin is useful in the modern world.
