LAT 112 - Latin Language II – 5 credits

  • Prerequisite: LAT 111 or instructor permission
  • Required Materials: Oxford Latin Course (2nd edition) – Part 2.
  • Course Objectives: to give students the opportunity to acquire additional basics of Latin grammar, develop a larger repertoire of Latin vocabulary, and be introduced to authentic texts by well-known Roman authors. Students will also have the opportunity to learn more about the Roman contribution to western culture and civilization.
  • Student Competencies: Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
    1. Demonstrate improved pronunciation of classical or ecclesiastical Latin.
    2. Understand and respond to Latin directions and questions.
    3. Demonstrate understanding of more advanced Latin vocabulary.
    4. Demonstrate the ability to write more complicated Latin sentences using correct and idiomatic syntax.
    5. Demonstrate comprehension of authentic Latin readings.
    6. Demonstrate continued appreciation for the contribution of Latin to the modern world.
