LAT 212 - Latin Language IV – 3 credits
- Prerequisite: LAT 211, or instructor permission
- Required Materials: Oxford Latin Course (2nd edition) – Part 3.
- Course Objectives: to provide students with the opportunity:
- to acquire more advanced knowledge of Latin grammar and vocabulary
- to acquire additional practice in more advanced reading and writing skills
- to acquire practice in more advanced translations including selections form Latin poetry in their original form
- to develop continued appreciation of the cultural and linguistic contribution of the Roman world to the modern western world
- Student Competencies: Upon completion of this course, student should be able to:
- Participate in more advanced discussions on reading selections with increased accuracy in idioms and grammar
- Comprehend and maintain meaningful communication in predictable situations, and paraphrase and summarize information
- Read and demonstrate comprehension of more complex literary selections
- Write compositions using more advanced syntax and vocabulary
- Compare, contrast and reflect on the important contributions of the Latin language and of the culture of the Latin world
