Prerequisite: None. This is a beginner course.

Course Objectives:
- To provide the student with the opportunity to acquire basic knowledge of Spanish grammar, vocabulary and syntax.
- To provide the student with practice in basic aural, oral, reading and writing skills.
- To provide the student with practice in translations from English to Spanish & Spanish to English.
- To provide the student with the opportunity to learn more about the culture of the Spanish speaking countries.
Student Performance Objectives: Upon completion of this class the student at the novice level should be able to:
- Reproduce comprehensibly the pronunciation and intonation of the language.
- Understand basic oral statements, instructions, and questions.
- Apply vocabulary and learned phrases in simple oral expressions.
- Use vocabulary and grammar in basic elementary interchanges.
- Employ comprehensible grammar and syntax in writing simple sentences.
- Read and comprehend basic information.
- Identify geographical locations where Spanish is spoken.
- Demonstrate an awareness of appropriate cultural behaviors in everyday situations.
