Arapahoe Community College continually assesses the effectiveness
of its programs. Recently the College studied students in transfer
courses that require substantial amounts of writing. Results of
the study suggest that (compared to students who have not taken
any college-level English) students who complete ACC's Freshman
Composition program
- are more confident in their writing
- feel less need for help in their writing
- earn higher grades in transfer courses that require writing.
Students who earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science
degree at ACC and then transfer to a four-year school usually maintain
the grade-point average they had at ACC and perform as well as,
or better than, students who began their education at the four-year
school. If you plan to transfer, work with an academic counselor
or a faculty advisor in exploring transfer opportunities.
