(March 8, 2011 – Littleton, Colorado) – The Arapahoe Community College (ACC) Foundation announced today that it will honor Dr. Temple Grandin at this year’s Fifth Annual Scholarship Luncheon on April 11. Dr. Grandin, a professor at Colorado State University (CSU), will serve as the keynote speaker at the luncheon and will be presented with the Promoting the Power of Education Award for her work in autism advocacy.
Dr. Grandin is one of the most accomplished and well-known adults with autism in the country. In addition to serving as a professor of animal science at CSU, she works as a designer of livestock handling facilities. She has designed facilities in the United States, Canada, Europe, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. In 2010, Time magazine named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
In 2010, HBO profiled her life story in the movie “Temple Grandin” starring Claire Danes. The movie received five Emmy awards. Grandin has also appeared on ABC’s Primetime Live, the Today Show, Larry King Live, NPR, and has been written about in Time magazine, People magazine, Forbes and The New York Times.
ACC’s Fifth Annual Scholarship Luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Arapahoe Community College, 5900 S. Santa Fe Drive in Littleton. The luncheon recognizes student scholarship recipients and the donors who make the scholarships possible.
