ACC TaeKwon-Do Students Shine at National Competition

(December 3, 2010 – Littleton, Colorado) – Students from Arapahoe Community College’s (ACC) TaeKwon-Do program received top honors at the Yom Chi TaeKwon-Do Association Nationals held Nov. 13 and 14 in Denver. Students competed in patterns, sparring and breaking competitions with other red and black belts from across the United States.

First place winners include: Kyle Colby (patterns), Carolyn Cohen (breaking) and Joe Burns (breaking). Second place winners include: Kyle Colby (sparring and breaking), Carolyn Cohen (patterns) and Jeanne Arnold (breaking). Third place winners include: Pete Medaugh (sparring), Casey Moffatt (sparring and breaking), Carolyn Cohen (sparring), Joe Burns (patterns) and Chris Markley (breaking).

The ACC TaeKwon-Do program began in 2008 and is open to anyone age 8 or older. Taekwon-Do is a modern Korean martial art designed for all skill and experience levels. Students learn mental, philosophical, self-motivational, and aerobic training of unarmed combat for self-defense as well as health. ACC TaeKwon-Do’s head instructor, Master Douglas Arnold, VII degree black belt, trained under General Choi, the grandmaster who founded and invented TaeKwon-Do.
