Sixty-four ACC Students Inducted Into Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society

(October 11, 2010 – Littleton, Colorado) -  Sixty-four Arapahoe Community College students were inducted into the Sigma Phi chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on Saturday, marking their academic success and achievement.. 

“We are excited to induct a record number of new members this year into the Sigma Phi chapter,” said Dr. Erica Hastert of ACC’s Phi Theta Kappa's Honors Program Committee.  “Our chapter provides a multitude of opportunities for students to get involved with campus life and to enrich their education at ACC.” 

The purpose of the honor society is to recognize and encourage scholarship among community college students. The society provides provides opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

To be eligible for membership, a student must complete a minimum of 12 hours of coursework and earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and receive a letter of recommendation from an ACC faculty member. Students must maintain a high academic standing throughout their enrollment at ACC.

The ACC Phi Theta Kappa chapter received Colorado’s Most Distinguished Chapter the last two years and received numerous regional hallmark and officer awards. The chapter also earned several international awards including a USA Today Case Study Challenge in 2008 and the Scholarship Hallmark Award in 2010. Dr. Hastert received the Paragon Distinguished Advisor award in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,250 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States and Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. More than two million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually.
