Two ACC Students Awarded Writers Studio Scholarship

(December 2, 2010 – Littleton, Colorado) - Arapahoe Community College (ACC) Writers Studio is pleased to announce that Erika Christiansen and Nathan Bryant have been selected as recipients of the Writers Studio Student Scholarship for spring 2011. The scholarship covers the cost of tuition and books for a creative writing, literature or humanities course at ACC.

“Normally, only one scholarship is awarded each semester, but the scholarship committee was so impressed by the quality of work submitted by both of these students that it wanted to reward both,” said Dr. Kathryn Winograd, coordinator of the ACC Writers Studio.

The committee recognized Christiansen’s work for the innovative and complex use of language in her poetry and prose and Bryant’s work for his strong mastery of form in fiction. In order to be eligible, students must have a 3.0 grade point average or higher, submit a 500 word essay and a portfolio with their creative work.

Christiansen, of Denver, wrote and illustrated her first book at the age of five, The Fart Book of AmErika. She is currently majoring in Interior Design.  Bryant, of Aurora, is a graduate of the Los Angeles Film School. He returned to college to pursue a career in writing.  Bryant plans to graduate from ACC in the spring with a creative writing emphasis.

Bryant and Christiansen will also be honored guests of the Writers Studio Spring Literary Festival on April 30.

Since the Writers Studio Student Scholarship began in 2008, five students have received a scholarship. To read more about Christiansen or Bryant and samples of their work visit www.arapahoe.edu/departments-and-programs/a-z-programs/writers-studio/writers-studio-scholarship.
