GM Training Center Moves to Arapahoe Community College
LITTLETON – The General Motors Service Technical College (STC) for the Denver area closed the doors of its facility at 47th and Kingston and moved the training program to Arapahoe Community College. The move to ACC became effective on Sept. 8th, and the first classes for the GM Training Center at its ACC location began on Sept. 11th.
“They chose to partner with ACC because of the quality of our programs and our affiliation with GM educational programs,” said Automotive Technology Director Jerry Viola. “Any GM training at the technician level will be done right here. This is one more validation that the Auto Tech program at ACC is the Harvard of Automotive Technology Training.”
The Denver area center provides training for GM automotive technicians throughout the region including Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Nebraska. The training center nearest the Denver region center is located in Ogden, Utah. Tony DeGeorge will provide the instruction for GM technicians.
“Technicians can go to a training center anywhere in the country,” Viola said. “We’ll have technicians coming from all over the United States. Anytime GM puts out new technology, technicians will have the opportunity to be trained on it right here on the ACC campus.”

Paul Oblad from the Los Angeles Training Center has been assisting in setting up the new training center at ACC. “ACC already has the General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) here,” Oblad said. “It makes sense for the GM Training Center and GM ASEP to be together. It will be mutually beneficial, and we have a great relationship with Jerry and the other instructors. It’s a great fit for us both.”
General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM), the world’s largest automaker, has been the annual global industry sales leader for 77 years. Founded in 1908, GM today employs about 266,000 people around the world. With global headquarters in Detroit, GM manufactures its cars and trucks in 35 countries. In 2007, nearly 9.37 million GM cars and trucks were sold globally under the following brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, HUMMER, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Vauxhall and Wuling. GM’s OnStar subsidiary is the industry leader in vehicle safety, security and information services. More information on GM can be found at www.gm.com.
The Auto Tech program at ACC already offers training through GM ASEP. “Because we’re an ASEP school, we can share tools and equipment for the benefit of our college program and GM’s training efforts. The end result will be that our students will have a leg up on their competition,” Viola said.
The associate degree programs at ACC are designed to provide competent automotive technicians for dealerships and independent general automotive repair facilities. The curricula for these programs were designed in conjunction with dealership representatives and the faculty of the Automotive Technology Department at Arapahoe Community College. The entire program at ACC is two years in length with approximately 50 weeks of technical and academic training. The remaining time is allocated for on-the-job training at sponsoring dealerships or independent shops. Each semester of training at ACC is followed by on-the-job work experience to reinforce the technical curriculum.
