ACC Library Offers Free Research Classes in October
LITTLETON The Arapahoe Community College Library will offer free research classes next month. Well attended in previous years, the topical research classes are back by popular demand and are designed for the public, faculty, staff and students. These introductory classes will be geared towards the expertise and needs of the attendees.
Four classes will be offered Tuesdays starting at 7 p.m. Demonstration of resources and Web sites will be followed by discussion and questions. Classes will be held in the computer lab on the second floor of the ACC Library.
We are very pleased to be able to offer our free October research classes again this year, said Director Malcolm Brantz with the ACC Learning Resource Center. The research information well present will run the gamut from getting published and legal and medical resources to tools for traveling and investing. We think a lot of faculty, staff, students and the members of the general public will be interested in this material.
Instructor Ed Sadowski will kick off the series on Oct. 7 with How to Get Published. He will explain how to find markets for stories, poems, plays, articles and books and how to find a literary agent and a publisher. The course also will cover preparing manuscripts and book proposals, self-publishing options and local clubs and support groups for writers.
Sadowski will offer Legal and Medical Resources on Oct. 14, covering the most helpful legal and medical resources available at the ACC Library and online, how to look up Colorado state statutes and state cases and researching federal laws, regulations and forms. The course also will cover how to find legal and medical consumer information and locating lawyers and doctors according to specialty.
An introduction to Travel Tools such as guidebooks, magazines, newspapers and Web sites will be presented on Oct. 21. Instructor Ann Priestman will cover how to find bargains and plan trips. Be prepared to share your adventures and ideas.
Three instructors will present Investing Tools and Resources on Oct. 28. Instructors Ann Priestman, Ed Sadowski and Malcolm Brantz will cover what print and online tools are available to help the novice invest in stocks, bonds and mutual funds as well as how to practice with simulated trading before doing the real thing.
The classes are free and open to the public. Registration is requested. Contact the library at 303.797.5090.
