LITTLETON
– The national search for a president for Arapahoe Community College
(ACC) has begun, announced Dr. Nancy McCallin, President of the
Colorado Community College System (CCCS). "We are excited to start the
search," McCallin said. "We will begin advertising the position widely
within the next two weeks. The CCCS office will collect the
applications as they are submitted, and they will then be reviewed by a
search committee. Members of the search committee are being identified,
and the names of those serving will be announced soon."
Dr. Linda Bowman, president of the Community College of Aurora, will
continue to serve as ACC interim president during the search process,
which could end by naming a new president early in 2010.
The Colorado Community College System comprises the state's largest
system of higher education, serving more than 116,000 students
annually. CCCS oversees career and academic programs in the 13 state
community colleges and career and technical programs in more than 160
school districts and seven other post-secondary institutions.

On
June 26, Nancy McCallin, president of the Colorado Community College
System, announced that Berton Glandon will be leaving Arapahoe
Community College by the end of this month. He has accepted the
position as the second president for the College of Western Idaho.
He
has served as president of ACC since 2002. His appointment at CWI marks
a return to that area, where he was the president of Treasure Valley
Community College in Ontario, Oregon, from 1993 to 2002.
"I’m
honored to be selected as the new president of the College of Western
Idaho," Glandon said. "Community colleges are an integral part of the
higher education system, offering a broad range of people the
opportunity to better themselves and contribute to their families,
communities and state. There are unlimited possibilities for CWI and
its students, and I look forward to helping CWI reach its utmost
potential."
Linda Bowman will serve as the interim
president of Arapahoe Community College while a national search is
conducted. Linda currently serves as president of the Community College
of Aurora and vice president of Academic and Student Affairs for the
Colorado Community College System. She will continue in her role at
CCA, but she will temporarily step out of her System duties to provide
leadership to ACC during the interim.
Bowman
has taught students from fifth grade through doctoral studies. She has
been a part of the Colorado Community College System since 1992, when
she joined Red Rocks Community College as an adjunct faculty member.
She served RRCC as campus director, dean and vice president for
instruction. In 1999, she went to Lamar Community College as interim
president. She joined CCA in 2000 as president, and then added the
additional role of System Vice -President in 2005.
"I
look forward to working with faculty, staff, and administrators at ACC,
as we maintain the momentum of this great institution," Bowman said.
"I
have had the opportunity to work with many members of the ACC faculty
and staff, so I know that there are critical initiatives underway. I am
looking forward to supporting these efforts as we move ahead, while the
important search for the next president of ACC takes place."
The
Colorado Community College System will be launching a national search
for a permanent president in the near future. The Colorado Community
College System comprises the state's largest system of higher education
serving more than 107,000 students annually. CCCS oversees career and
academic programs in the 13 state community colleges and career and
technical programs in more than 160 school districts and seven other
