1. Prepare for your advising appointment as if you were going to your doctor – write down any questions ahead of time; bring old records that might be relevant.
   
   
2. Give your advisor as much info as possible, he or she can only advise based on information given by the student.
   
   
3. Obtain a College Catalog as soon as you become an ACC student, even if you are not full time or have not declared a plan of study. The College Catalog contains valuable academic information.
   
   
4. Ask a lot of questions!
   
   
5. If you are new student, take your College Placement Test (CPT) before seeing an advisor. It is much easier to select courses once you know your CPT scores.
