The College is committed to maintaining a drug-free campus. The College expects all members to be responsible for their own behavior within the context of State and Federal laws and College regulations. Drug and alcohol laws are vigorously enforced on the campus. As set forth in local, State, and Federal laws, and the rules and regulations of the College, the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by students and employees on campus-controlled property is strictly prohibited.

College Sanctions

Through existing disciplinary procedures, the College will impose disciplinary sanctions upon students and employees who unlawfully use, possess, sell or distribute drugs or unlawfully use or abuse alcohol on college property, or as part of any College employment or activity. Depending on the circumstances, these sanctions may range from a warning, to a maximum of expulsion or termination of employment. Students and employees who violate the College's regulations are also subject to referral by the Campus Police Department for criminal prosecution in the Littleton Municipal Court or the Arapahoe County District Court.

The Human Resource Office 303.797.5720 has information on counseling and rehabilitation services/programs.

Serving Alcohol on College-Controlled Property

Those persons or organizations that control the service of alcoholic beverages are responsible for compliance with applicable laws and College regulations:

  • All events serving alcohol must have permission of the College. A valid liquor license must be obtained through the City of Littleton or the event must be held in areas within the bounds of the College's license.
  • The sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited except in areas, at times, and dates licensed by the Colorado State Department of Revenue.
  • Service of alcoholic beverages is stopped before the close of the event.
  • The burden of proof for showing legal age is on the alcohol consumer. No alcohol will be served unless clear evidence of legal age is presented.
  • It is the responsibility of those in charge of the event to assure that no one who is under-age is served or consumes any alcoholic beverages.

It is illegal in the State of Colorado for any person under the age of 21 years of age to possess, consume, or purchase any alcoholic beverage. It is illegal for a person over the age of 21 to furnish alcoholic beverages to any person under the age of 21 years of age. Municipal Code prohibits the consumption of alcohol or the carrying of alcohol in open containers on any street, sidewalk, or alley, or in an automobile or public area.

Description of Health Risks

Serious health and personal risks are associated with the use of illegal drugs and alcohol. They may include temporary or permanent physical or mental impairment, injury or death. Use and abuse of such substances may give rise to conduct which causes injury, death or damage to the user/abuser or to the person or property of others, resulting in criminal or civil prosecution and liability. Use and abuse of such substances may lead to unsafe and/or nonconsensual sex or unwanted pregnancy, and may cause defects, injury or death in unborn children. Consequences may also include temporary or permanent loss of educational or employment opportunities.

Illegal Drugs

The policy for Arapahoe Community College prohibits the sale, manufacture, distribution, use or possession of illegal drugs on the College campus. This policy applies equally to administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

The sale, distribution, or manufacture of illegal drugs by a member of the ACC campus community will normally result in the administration taking action to eliminate the problem. This policy applies within or upon the grounds, buildings, or any other facilities of the campus. Sanctions may be imposed upon individuals found in violation of these policies, as well as violation of laws controlling drugs and alcohol.
