Disciplinary Process/Student Handbook
Crime victims, regardless of how seemingly insignificant the crime,
are encouraged to promptly report the incident to the Campus Police
Department or the appropriate police agency if the occurrence was
outside of college property. To report a crime, a victim or witness
need only call the Campus Police Department at 303.797.5800, and
a campus police officer will meet them to gather the information.
An official report is made with copies available to the victim.
Victims and/or witnesses can report crimes on a confidential basis
through the silent witness program, and by filling out the online
Eyewitness Report form. Students
and employees should report criminal offenses for timely warning
and statistical reporting purposes to:
The Campus Police Department at 303.797.5800
or to the appropriate police agency if the crime occurred off-campus.
You've Just Seen a Crime, Accident, Emergency or Suspicious
Person or Incident.....
Promptly Call 303.797.5800.
If there is no immediate answer call 911.
911 calls from pay phones and cellular phones are free.
Reporting Medical Emergencies
The Campus Police Department has a direct line to the Littleton
Police/Fire Departments. The Campus Police Department will contact
and coordinate the local emergency responders. Serious medical problems
will be handled through the Littleton Fire and Rescue Department.
The Campus Police Department will provide basic care for the victim
until responders are on scene.
The Campus Police Department only provides basic first aid to
individuals with minor injuries: cuts, scrapes, bruises, sprains,
strains, insect bites, bee stings. No medication including aspirin
will be dispensed.
Transportation for injuries or illness which are non-life threatening
but for which medical treatment is needed is the responsibility
of the individual. The Campus Police Department does not provide
transportation for medical reasons.
The Campus Police Department will provide care for seizure victims
until Littleton Rescue Team arrives by protecting the person from
injury and keeping the airways clear. If a seizure victim does not
want the Littleton Fire and Rescue Department contacted, the Campus
Police Department requires written instructions regarding procedures to
follow, contact person information, and reasonable care to be provided.
Circumstances may prevent written instructions to be followed.
Reporting a Fire
The Campus Police Department will immediately notify the Littleton
Fire and Rescue Department. The campus police officers will help
with the evacuation and manage traffic in order for fire trucks
and rescue vehicles to have clear access to the scene.
Emergency Phones
The campus is equipped with house phones in the classrooms and conference
rooms. The Campus Police Department can be contacted by pressing
5800 or 5911 on a house phone; if no immediate answer, hang up and
press 9-911. A directory of other service phone numbers is posted
next to each phone for your convenience.
Blue Light Phones
ACC campus parking lots and the south walkway are equipped with
code blue emergency phones. During business hours these phones ring
directly to the Campus Police Department. After normal Campus Police
office hours, the emergency phones ring to the Littleton Police
Department. Use these phones if you need to report a crime, suspicious
activity or person(s), a vehicle problem, or to request an escort.
Simply look for the blue strobe light in the parking lot, proceed
to the phone and push the red button on the face plate. An emergency
services person will answer.
Emergency Desk Reference
An Emergency Desk Reference is posted next to each phone on campus to provide quick instructions on what to do in certain emergencies.
Campus Emergency Response/Evacuation
This information is designed to provide general guidance in the event of an emergency. The procedures outlined are intended to prevent injury to persons and to reduce campus damage.
In any emergency, the first step is to take care of yourself.
Faculty and office staff should inform others about weather-safe zones and emergency exits.
All persons with disabilities who may need assistance during an emergency should arrange with volunteers from their classes or offices for assistance. A person with a disability may request an appointment to review emergency evacuation procedures from the Office of Disability Services (Room M2710; 303.797.5937). Areas of Rescue Assistance are located on the third and fourth floors of the Main campus building and are equipped with an alert button and speaker that communicates directly to the police department.
In case of emergency or incident, please call Campus Police at 5800 or 5911. If no immediate answer, call 9-911. Closely follow any instructions received. Do not hang up until you are sure no further information is needed.
To report an emergency, state, “This is an emergency,” then give the dispatcher the following information:
- The nature of the emergency
- Your name
- The phone number from which you are calling
- Your location
If the fire alarm sounds, evacuate the building:
- Move quickly, but in an orderly fashion, to the nearest exit and continue to a safe distance from the building (approximately 100 yards).
- Do not use the elevators.
- Keep clear of emergency vehicles.
- Stay with the group from your area or with your class.
- Stay out of the building until you hear the “ALL CLEAR”.
Evacuation drills are conducted annually.
Immediate Warning of Emergency
Arapahoe Community College, through the Campus Police Department, will immediately notify the campus community upon the confirmation of a significant emergency or dangerous situation involving an immediate threat to the health or safety of students or staff on campus.
Emergency notifications may be accomplished through the fire alarm system, the public address system, e-mail notification, telephone communication to each classroom and office, bull horn, television monitors or direct contact by a floor marshal, police officer or other college designee.
Secondary notifications include billboards, sign boards and postings.
These notification systems are tested throughout the year.
