Graduation
vs. Commencement
There is a difference
between Commencement and Graduation:
- Commencement
is simply the ceremony
celebrating graduation.
- Graduation
is actual degree or certificate
conferral—it is the process of posting the
credential to a student’s academic record.
Graduation
Application Process
The process
to apply for graduation is as follows (the process is the same for
a degree or certificate; for Professional Achievement Awards, please
see below):
- Obtain a
Graduation Application Form.
- Read all
of the instructions carefully and fill the form out completely.
- Be sure
to indicate which catalog year is being followed to meet the
graduation requirements.
- Submit the
form by the deadline to the Cashier’s Office with the appropriate
payment.
- Any student
applying for multiple credentials must submit a Graduation
Application for each program.
- Students
may apply to earn multiple credentials in any given semester,
but will be charged only for a maximum of three credentials.
- Once the
application charges are processed by the Cashier’s Office,
the application will be forwarded to the Graduation Office.
- An official
audit of the program will be conducted, and an audit letter will
be mailed to the student.
- Degrees
and certificates are conferred at the end of each semester.
- A final
audit will be conducted at the end of the semester:
- Once
all grades are posted and all other programmatic requirements
have been completed, the degree and/or certificate will be
conferred, and the diploma printed.
- Students
living in the Denver metro area will be mailed a postcard advising
that their diploma is available for pick-up at Information Central.
- Students
living outside the Denver metro area will have their diploma
mailed to them.
- Information
Central will hold diplomas for one semester. Any diploma not picked
up within this timeframe will be archived in the Admissions and
Records Office for a limited time.
Professional
Achievement Awards
Arapahoe Community
College’s Professional Achievement Award programs respond
to working adults’ needs for convenient, short-term educational
programs—teaching concepts that you can use on the job immediately.
These awards are intended for personal and professional growth and
will not be posted to a student’s official academic record.
The process
to apply for a Professional Achievement Award is as follows.
- Obtain a
Professional
Achievement Award Application Form.
- Read all
of the instructions carefully and fill out the form completely.
- Submit the
form to the Cashier’s Office with the $10 payment.
- Once the
charges are processed by the Cashier’s Office, the application
will be forwarded to the Graduation Office.
- The application
will be processed and a postcard will be mailed out when the Achievement
Award is available for pickup, typically four weeks after all
coursework is completed.
ACC
Commencement Ceremony
Arapahoe Community
College holds an annual commencement ceremony in May for students
who have earned a certificate or diploma during that academic year.
ACC conducts
a beautiful ceremony that is held outside on the south lawn of the
campus. It is a festive event that allows students the opportunity
to celebrate their academic achievements with friends and family!
Students eligible
to participate in the annual ceremony are:
- Those who
graduated during the previous Summer and/or Fall semesters, and
- Those who
have applied for Spring graduation and will complete all of their
programmatic requirements by the end of the Spring semester.
