Why did you choose ACC?
I chose Arapahoe Community College (ACC) because of its wide range of excellent programs. My mom graduated from ACC with an Associate Degree in Health Information in 2008, and she highly recommended the school to me. I've found that the staff are incredibly supportive, always ready to assist students with class registration, resume building, job searches, and internships.
What's your Mountain (your ultimate goal)?
My ultimate goal is to further my education in computer science. Next summer, I plan to pursue an internship at HealthOne. I also aim to complete the certification exam for a Network Security and Computer Technician Certificate. Additionally, I want to work with high school students with special needs, as I was a special needs student myself. I’m passionate about helping others succeed in achieving their goals.
Why did you choose your program / major?
I chose this program because of an experience I had in elementary school. When one of my classmates was struggling with an assignment, I helped them out. The teacher suggested that I consider a career in computers, and I realized it was a great idea. I’m eager to work with computers and gain the skills and experience needed to succeed in this field.
What has been the best thing about your program / ACC?
The best thing about this program is that it offers online classes. This flexibility allows me to take classes in the evening after finishing my afternoon shift. Additionally, there are online tutors available to help if I’m struggling with an assignment, which is incredibly beneficial.
What's your favorite ACC memory so far?
My favorite aspect of ACC is how friendly everyone—both students and staff—has been. When I first joined the Creative Writing Club, I met some wonderful people who offered great advice on my writing. Just two weeks ago, I attended the ACC Foundation Luncheon, where two students delivered inspiring speeches about overcoming obstacles. Their stories motivated us all to work hard and never give up on our goals.
Which class has been your favorite so far?
I enjoyed Intro to PC Applications, where I learned about Excel, Microsoft Word, Access, and PowerPoint. We got to create projects that helped reinforce our skills, and the training sessions were very informative.
What accomplishment are you most proud of (so far)?
I made the President's List for Spring 2023, Fall 2023, and Summer 2024, and I was also inducted into PTK and NSLS.
Were you involved in any clubs, organizations, or activities at ACC? Tell us about it/them.
I’m a member of both NSLS and PTK. For PTK, I served as Secretary from June 2022 to September 2023, where I took attendance and notes. I also assisted members with the Honors in Action writing project and helped organize events, including the induction ceremony. Additionally, I joined the Creative Writing Club and am eager to get more involved in its activities.
Advice or words of wisdom for future students
My advice for students is to never give up. You can achieve your goals, regardless of what others may say. It's important to ignore negativity and keep working towards your aspirations. If you're feeling down, don’t hesitate to talk to someone about it, and always strive to maintain a positive outlook. Staying positive will help you reach your goals and inspire you to reach for the stars.
