Simulacra
The Colorado Gallery of the Arts is hosting cutting-edge installations created by ACC art student Jodee Sweet and Sisel Lan. This exhibition, explores the paradoxical realm where the simulation of reality emerges as a profound reflection, challenging the notion that one's perceived reality may, in fact, be a meticulously crafted mirage, blurring the lines between authenticity and illusion.
Jodee Sweet is not only one of our amazing ACC art students but is also a painting instructor for ACC's Workforce and Community Programs and exhibits nationally. Jodee is a queer multimedia artist who creates thought-provoking works that explore emotional manifestations, depression, and societal stigmatization. Sweet’s work is deeply personal, drawing from one's own experiences with mental health and the challenges of navigating a world that often feels hostile to those who don’t fit neatly into traditional gender roles. Through art, Jodee seeks to create a space for dialogue and understanding, challenging viewers to confront their own biases and assumptions. Jodee has been taking art classes at the ACC Art & Design Center for several years. Sweet expresses "the art program has allowed me to safely and openly find myself and my voice as an artist".
Born in Mexico City, Sisel Lan pursued studies in Architecture and earned a Master's in Photography and Visual Arts. He concentrates on crafting intimate and deeply personal art projects that explore human relationships, social paradigms, and the subjective perception of reality. Now that he has joined the ACC art community, he continues to peruse his mixed-media installations that intertwine photography and video to express his passion for art. His work incorporates theatrical settings and performances involving movement, staging, and reenactment, always with a strong conceptual approach. His fabric pieces gently sway as you walk through the space, while his still-frame images reveal a narrative that unfolds gradually with each viewing, one frame at a time.
