Surveys microorganisms with an emphasis on their structure, development, physiology, classification, and identification. Microbial diversity, functional anatomy, biochemistry, genetics, ecology, and disease are included. Mandatory hands-on laboratory experience includes sterile technique, microscopy, culture procedures, and biochemical and genetic analysis.
