Our Medical Assistant program is designed to develop your skills and place you in outpatient care facilities. Our program is designed in a “step-manner,” which will allow you to enter the workforce as soon as possible while continuing your education in class. What You'll Learn

When you complete the Medical Assistant program you will be prepared to take the American Medical Technologists (AMT) or NCCT certification exams so you can get a job as a fully-fledged MA for the front and back office of a physician’s office. In addition to doing reception work in the office, an MA also does patient care including laboratory work and injections.

The Administrative Assistant certificate prepares you to work in the front office / reception area of physician’s officers.

The Medical Assistant Certificate enables a student to get a job as a fully-fledged MA for the front and back office of a medical office. In addition to doing reception work in the office, an MA also does patient care including laboratory work and injections in an ambulatory care facility. The curriculum is designed to facilitate the correlation between theory and clinical practice while exercising critical thinking proficiency.

Admission Requirements

  • Admission to Arapahoe Community College
    • Select "Health" as your area of interest and "Medical Assistant, Certificate" as your degree or certificate.
  • Personal interview with the MAP Program Coordinator
  • Criminal Background Check

Graduation Requirements

  • All major, general education and other courses required for these certificates/degrees must be completed with a "C" or better to meet graduation requirements.
  • Medical Office Technology (MOT) courses must be taken within five years of a student's graduation.
  • Apply for graduation online at www.arapahoe.edu/graduation.
  • As a graduate of a Career and Technical Education program you will be contacted by an ACC employee in approximately six months to verify your employment information. This information gathering is a federal requirement to ensure that ACC receives certain federal funding.

What is the cost of ACC's Medical Assistant Program?

Based on the certificate you choose and your COF (College Opportunity Fund) eligibility, the estimated cost is:

  • Medical Assistant Certificate - Approximately $2700 including books and supplies
    • 9 credits, books $81.25, $93.75, $62.50
  • Administrative Assistant Certificate - Approximately $3200 including books and supplies

You will also be responsible for the cost of immunizations, background checks, drug screening, and any nominal costs associated with clinical affiliations.
