Study Abroad Visits Portugal and Spain

This summer, ACC study abroad students journeyed through Portugal and Spain, where every step offered a unique history lesson—from Lisbon’s intricate Moorish streets to Seville’s stunningly preserved mosaics. The adventure continued in Madrid and Barcelona, where students explored a captivating blend of Roman, Gothic, and Baroque architecture.

Key highlights of the trip included visits to iconic landmarks such as Gaudí’s Sagrada Família and Park Güell, as well as a tour of the Picasso Museum to delve into his renowned artwork. Students also had enriching day trips to Évora and Toledo, where they participated in a sword-making workshop.

The experience was enriched with cultural activities, including a vibrant Flamenco performance and opportunities to savor local cuisine. Every aspect of the program was carefully designed to offer guided learning, cultural immersion, and the development of global competencies.

A big thank you to the professors who participated on this trip, Angela Belt, Katie Caron, Veronica Chavez, Trish Sangelo and Dawn Viola.

"This was my first time traveling abroad. It was amazing. I appreciated all the work the group leader and faculty did to prepare us for travel. I made so many new friends and experienced so many new things. The tours of the monuments, cathedrals, museums, and palaces were so beautiful and more breathtaking in person than in a book. I loved the flamenco performance. This trip was a great cultural experience." ~Bella

After we returned Ceramic Professor Katie Caron hosted an inspiring workshop that was a wonderful extension of our study abroad trip. The session focused on Majolica, a traditional glazing technique from Spain and Portugal, and allowed students to explore this art form firsthand.
